We decided to first grow blue pansies in Calico and grew six of them before
we decided to switch to flowers with a little more color. Early on we were
experimenting with diagonal placement. Since I (Ginger) have a silver watering
can I end up taking care of most of the watering. Diagonal placement seems to
work pretty well, but it doesn't take long to create ugly brown spots where I
have to step off the path to water.
Valentine's Day was coming so we decided to plant red roses. This is our
first black rose. We also decided to utilize already bare patches along
pathways, so if we're really careful not to step on the flowers while
watering, some of the grass, er, snow starts to accumulate under the flowers.
We had a lot of white roses saved up so we decided to plant some of
those and before long, purple roses started springing up!
On the first day of green grass our carnations gave us a surprise.
By the end of February we had quite a few black roses!

AND quite a bunch of purple roses! We decided we had enough
to start trying to breed blue roses! :D
